IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR USING THE NEW IRISV3 DISKETTE: Before using the New IRISV3 installation diskette, please read the following material (also 1.3 RUNNING IRIS FROM A HARD DISK IRIS must be executed from your computer's hard disk. IT CAN BE RUN FROM A NETWORK 1.5 ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE REQUIRED TO RUN IRIS - [REQUIRED] DOS, Version 5 or higher, preferably with the operating system loaded into upper memory; - [RECOMMENDED] If you have access to: dBASE-IV, or any compatible database program (dBASE III PLUS, FOXBASE, ACCESS) or spreadsheet program (LOTUS 123, EXCEL, QUATTRO) that can import dBASE-IV data, you will be able to access and utilize your IRIS database for a variety of analysis and display tasks. 1.6 INSTALLATION Read the instructions below thoroughly before you begin installation: (a) To begin installation, boot or start your computer, wait for the "C:\>" prompt, and create If your prompt does not look like "C:\>", type the command: PROMPT $P$G <Enter>. At the C:\> prompt, create a directory called IRISV3. Type the commands: CD\ <Enter> Your prompt should now be "C:\IRISV3>". (b) Insert the New IRISV3 diskette in drive A and type the commands: A:NUSRINST <Enter> A:DB5LIB <Enter> (c) Checking your DOS Configuration. Before you can run IRIS, you must check to see that (1) First, go to the root directory of your hard drive, and determine whether a file named C: <Enter> If CONFIG.SYS already exists, the last command will list its contents on the screen. If (2) If CONFIG.SYS already exists, it is essential that it contain two important lines. One COPY CONFIG.SYS+CON CONFIG.SYS <Enter> and skip to (4). (3) If CONFIG.SYS does not exist, enter the command: COPY CON CONFIG.SYS <Enter> (4) Whether you got to this step from (2) or (3), continue by entering the following: FILES=26 (Note - <Ctrl><Z> means: press <Z> while holding down the <Ctrl> key.) (5) Reboot or restart your computer to activate the changes you just made. (d) The program is now installed and ready to use. Always move to the IRISV3 directory CD IRISV3 <Enter> (e) Program Initialization. The following steps must be performed the first time you run Start IRIS as in 1.6(d), above: C: <Enter> (if you are not already at the C prompt) Select "Reference Files/Data Management" from the main menu by pressing <5> and run - first, select "Rebuild Data Indexes" by pressing <3>. This causes IRIS to create - second, select "Generate Data Help Windows" by pressing <4>. This causes IRIS - third, select "Set up Administrative Data" by pressing <1>; this tells IRIS that you - fourth, select "Employer Names" by pressing <2> and enter the list of employer (f) You are now ready to run IRISV3.
