Information about 128-bit Encryption

Some Internet applications will require you to use 128-bit encryption. Retrieving PS&R Summary Reports from the Highmark Medicare Services web site is one example. 128-bit encryption provides a significantly greater amount of cryptographic protection than lower levels of encryption.

Do you need to upgrade your browser?

Internet Explorer:

To check your current encryption level in Internet Explorer, click on the Help menu and select About Internet Explorer. You should see your encryption level listed there as the "Cypher Strength." If it is not at 128-bit you will need to upgrade it. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/128bit/default.asp for more information and to download the upgrade.

Netscape Navigator:

See Netscape's Article: How do I know if I have 40-bit or 128-bit security? to find out if you need to upgrade. If you do, see http://help.netscape.com/kb/consumer/19970808-8.html to get the 128-bit secure version.

AOL:

Go to keyword: BROWSER and a box will be displayed showing 40 bit or 128 bit. If you are not at 128-bit, click on the upgrade link.

Please remember, when ever you apply an upgrade to your PC, it is wise to backup important files first!
