Electronic claim files must be submitted to Highmark Medicare Services in the 837 ANSI standard EDI Format.  Dial-Up Networking involves connecting to the Highmark Medicare Services Local Area Network (LAN) via modem. To connect through Dial-Up Networking, you will need:

  • An analog telephone line.  You may want to have this line dedicated to your modem if you anticipate frequent usage.  The number to dial for connecting to the LAN is in the 717 or 412 area code.  Long distance charges may apply.

  • A Hayes compatible modem supporting 28800 bps data rate or greater.

  • Communication software.

  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software.

  • Submitter ID and Login setup by Highmark Medicare Services.

The EDI file to be sent through Dial-Up Networking may be created in software written by the vendor of your choice, created in-house, or by using PC-ACE Pro32 ™.   Click here to view a list of vendors already approved for Medicare Part A electronic billing.

If interested in Dial-Up Networking, EDI enrollment with Highmark Medicare Services is required.  Please click here for EDI enrollment information.
